Tele-medicine with GLOBALINX®
When Pat Jeanpierre-Hicks’ father took ill, it touched more than just her family.
Pat’s 81-year-old dad, Albert, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and started to decline in May of 2008. He quickly became bed-ridden and struggled with severe bed sores on his legs. While both he and his doctor were located in the city of Alexandria, Louisiana, a simple trip across town to the doctor’s office was impossible.
Albert, who cannot walk, could not be moved. Medical transportation via ambulance — the only local option — had a price tag of $1,000, a non-emergency cost insurance would not cover. So at Pat’s suggestion, Albert’s doctor made a high-tech house call.
By simply taking a GLOBALINX® VideoPhone to the doctor’s office and setting one up inside Albert’s room, the doctor was able to thoroughly examine his patient with high resolution visuals and complete two-way audio. Using the zoom feature of the phone and a tape measure to detail the wounds, Pat’s dad — and his entire family — soon started to feel better.
“By sitting right here at home I could show the doctor the wounds,” Pat said. “We could measure them, show close ups and I even took my dad’s blood pressure live for the doctor. My dad did not have to be moved in any uncomfortable way either. Now we do all our appointments via VideoPhone.”
And according to Pat, the doctor is now offering appointments via VideoPhone to his entire patient base.
It’s medical care that’s changing lives.
