JC Battle & Sons Funeral Home
Saying goodbye is never easy. For many, it can be nearly impossible.
For the elderly with physical limitations, attending the funeral service of a loved one or dear friend is not always an option. But armed with the GLOBALINX® VideoPhone, the J.C. Battle & Sons Funeral Home is making final goodbyes happen.
Located in Cincinnati, Ohio, the Battle Funeral Home has been serving the mortuary needs of those in their community since 1933. Together with local elder care facility Alaska Acres Care Center, they’ve found a way to bring people together during difficult times.
With their GLOBALINX® VideoPhone inside the chapel of their facility and one housed at the care center, residents can now “attend” the funeral calling hours or service of those they love. A large, flat screen TV hooked by one simple cable to the GLOBALINX® VideoPhone projects the entire event in real time complete with high resolution video and full audio. Residents can watch, hear and participate — which is very important according to Lynwood Battle.
“Many funerals now are give and take with spontaneous conversation,” he said. “Those in the audience want to share a story, offer a remark and the VideoPhone links those at a remote location with those at the service. Anyone can stand up, say a few words and actually participate from anywhere across town or across the world. It’s a hallmark of a personalized funeral service and an ideal way to provide closure.”
For a resident of the nursing home to participate, the camera on the VideoPhone is simply pointed toward the speaker. Instantly, he or she is part of the final goodbye.
It’s a change that’s enhancing the lives of many elderly, according to Barbara Poole, Administrator and Social Worker at the Alaska Acres Care Center.
“This technology allows closure for residents and staff alike,” Mrs. Poole said.
